On the floor of my truck (and I assume any other vehicle) there are grooves in the floor...when I replace pieces of the floor do I need to have these grooves or will it be ok if my floor is flat.
I figure they must be there for something but I cant see what...drainage doesn't make sense with it having no where to go...
Ok end dumb question here hopefully someone can help me.
It's "corrugated" for strength with that gauge of steel. If it was flat the metal would have to be a lot thicker. That would make it a lot heavier too. I just replaced all the floor in my 64's 8' bed with flat steel and It weighs about 100 lbs more than before.
Hrm so if I go and buy regular steel what gauge should I buy for the floor? The premade stuff is expensive and doesn't even cover the majority of the problem (which is closer to the door...the kick panel and the rocker... drive side)
I think I used 1/8". Mostly cause it was handy. I'd think you could use 1/16" (16g) with pretty good results too. I cut mine so the only seam would be in the middle (crossways)of the bed right between the wheelhousings. Turned out good. I would have liked to replaced the floor with the "factory" stuff but it was just too expensive. I found a NOS floor at the Indy swap but $600 was too rich for my blood! A later model floor panel will fit too if you can find one. Good luck,
