I just picked up a 1965 F100 2WD project truck for my wife and the guy mentioned several times that the bed was from a 64. I could clearly tell it was swapped because of the color difference, but for the price I didn't take the time to do my homework and confirm that the beds are interchangeable.
Did I buy myself a bed swap in the process? If they are interchangable, then they put it back together wrong because the body lines don't line up as well as I would expect. If not, I guess I have another thing to add to the list.
And yes, a project/ build thread will be started soon.
The 2 wheel drive boxes are all the same from '64-'66. The 4 wheel
drive uses the '57-'60 box for the 64-65 and 66 F250 trucks. A 1966 4 wheel drive F100 uses the 2 wheel drive box. A picture would be nice as maybe the previous owner used a 1963 wrong box
While taking pictures, I stopped compared the contours in much better light than when I bought it and I am a little more confident that it is just misaligned. Are there spacers under the bed that could have been left out? And what am I looking for to confirm that this is the correct bed or no? Google searching pictures is not helping me much, so I am probably missing the obvious.
Of course, the closer I look, the more flaws and rust I see that I didn't spot before too. But that is the nature of these projects I suppose.
That is the right bed. Alignment was not of the most importance back then. You can put shims in under the bed, but I don't know if you can do that much. Good Luck, Bob.
This is the closest shot I could find of mine.
Bob, I had noticed that before on your truck and thought it was an optical illusion from the camera angle or something. Any clues what is causing that? Frame sag? Cab mounts?
If a LWB truck had that much angle between the cab and the bed it would look like a giant had started to fold it in half.

Curious....
Thanks.

i've seen similar alignment issues on trucks where the front crossmember/brace in the bed has been rusted out and then repaired, and the issue seems to be when the repair is made, the original mounting surface that would rest against the frame is now slightly different in height: I've seen beds that look like they rise going towards the cab and others that drop going towards the cab. Of course, many of us have had to repair the floor and possibly also the crossmember at the front the bed, so not surprising that some end up slightly misaligned. Seems like it would be better to err on the low side so then the front could just be shimmed up to match the cab. Just my 2 cents.
This bed does angle down a little towards the cad and has a couple patch panels in the floor up towards the front, so the might very well be the issue or have previous repairs that are dubious at best. If the weld job on the bed patches are any indication, then maybe even both, lol.
Thanks everyone for helping put my mind at ease a little. Apparently all is well except a little bit of extra alignment hassle during the eventual reassembly. I got a good price of $1000 on a running truck, but if I had to throw in a new bed the deal was getting a bit sketchier. No matter what, the better half is excited for her truck and I am now in for the full ride come what may. I was just mainly nervous by how many times he mentioned it was a different year bed. I told him I was restoring it and he may have thought I was talking full on concours restoration and would be upset if I found out later.

I took some measurements after that picture, and the bed was lower on the right side from the left. I put in two shims, a little more than 3/8" and made it look better. The rust damage to that area may have caused a slight twist in the frame over the past years. I'll take another picture, but I know it looks better now. Bob
Bob, I've already learned something new so it was a good question for me...
I might have really thought it was an illusion if a drivers side picture looked different. One wouldn't think 3/8" would be a lot, but I bet it makes a difference.
Your truck looks good. I like the stock look with the wheels and all. Very nice.
