KBS brand is what I've used twice now on atv metal gas tanks. It's phenomenal. Used red kote on the tank and it did not end well. Used acetone to eat the red kote as it did not solidify, just skinned over on the bottom of the tank. I like the KBS because it comes as a three stage kit; cleaner, etcher, and coating.

I have used the Eastwood 3 step treatment with good success on rare hard to find tanks. It uses strong detergent, acid and acetone to clean and prep the metal then a sealer.
That said, new tanks for dents are readily available. A new tank is probably a better deal.
