For me, the thinner core lets air move better through it and heats my truck cab faster . The defroster vents blow harder. After about 3-4 miles I have to turn the blower motor down to low . Old bicycle tubes work good to pressure up a heater core. Cut the tube about 8" on either side of the valve stem and slip the open ends over the core tubes and clamp or zip tie shut. Use tire pump to pressure up. Motorcycle tubes are good for checking radiators.
Ibuildmyown, (name?) Thanks for this info! We all appreciate stuff like this, especially with keeping our obsolete components working.
The bicycle tube test is a great idea that is cheap, easy and anybody can do.
Also good to know the thinner core works just as good, if not better than the thicker one. I was guessing it wouldn't be as good based on another members comments that his didn't heat his cab or defrost his windows.
