17,700 miles check engine light

My first check engine light...how exciting The fuel cap is tight so not that. Have an appointment with dealer, anything I should be aware of. Does this light come on for no reason? Wasn't expecting a light so soon in mileage...

I would recommend getting an OBDII scanner in order to tell you why your check engine light is on, especially if there are no obvious indications why it came on....as mentioned above, there are hundreds of reasons and the scanner could let you know what it could possibly be. Ford however, will not care what your OBDII scanner says, they will diagnose it with their software (which will dig into your truck significantly deeper). While your truck is still under warranty now, you seem to be about half way to your 36k bumper to bumper warranty, it won't be in the future. Having the scanner will let you know what is up before you take it to the dealer to pay out of pocket later down the road.
Some of the more serious check engine light codes usually equate to noticable poor engine performance like bad injectors and faulty fuel injection control models or bad exhaust gas flow problems. The minor check engine codes can be self diagnostic sensor reading problems where the self test readings are out of tolerance. Anyway, let us know what code you got from the dealer (if they even tell you) and what the fix was! hope you get your truck back soon. Also, hope you get a loaner car too!

It's A diesel thing you will get used to it. My current 2012 6.7 had it on almost always because of emissions stuff. This may not be the case for everyone but if you do a quick search it's not hard to figure out these engines are complicated and are overly sensitive. Usually it's something very minor and will not affect performance. Like was already said getting a scanner tool is nice for peace of mind.

Ha, mine came on at 200 miles. Brake light wiring relay went bad. Welcome to Super Duty ownership.

NP Guess what I was getting at is that I am suspicious...light comes on just to get you in the door then sock it to you. Guess I need to learn more trust

HA! The light went off. They said that it did not have any memory to tell what the problem was so I cancelled the appointment. Self correcting, I love it...
