1946 1 ton chassis

hello all.
Im looking to do a restomod to my 1 ton pickup long bed. After much thought I'm not going to rebuild the flathead that's in there now. I want to dump a lot of HP under there. I was wondering how much could the original chassis handle or is there a place I can get a new frame to handle all them ponys.
Thanks
rob

My thought is: you could put whatever engine would fit in there. You should box the frame rails to make them more rigid if you want it to handle well while cornering. I am assuming that you would upgrade the suspension.

No aftermarket frames are available. Best thing is to box your current frame, like was mentioned, to beef it up.
Tell us more, what's in the cards for your truck. Not too often is a Tonner modified for more HP.

I think it would be a good platform for a restomod. As for suspension/axles I'm thinking dana 60 front, sterling 10 1/4 rear, 5.9 cummins 12 valve, 6 speed manual. Now that's a restomod for ya and don't forget to box those frame rails!

Thanks for all the help. I will definitely box the frame. I was back and for on what to do with my tonner but I'm getting a better vision now. I want to keep the original patina for the paint color for now and clean up the inside of the cab. I want to drop a400 HP Ford 347 Stroker Engine in it with modern suspension and breaks, I also am going to put black walnut for the bed boards with a Keg as a gas tank. I know this sound very ambitus but will start with the drive train first and go from there.
Thanks again
Rob

Would he need to box the frame front to back or just the front?

Hey GB
You can buy them. I'm not at that point yet in my resto but I will definitely sell them. I have 4 rims and 2 hubcaps. The rubber is no good on 2 rims, 1 is decent and the last is ok. I will be there around June if that works.
Thank

I think the tonner frame would be fine without boxing with the small block. Curious why a 347 when you could do a stroker 351 for about the same money, like a 406 or 427.
