I ran a Diablo for a while in my 2008 6.8 and it did help some but the Mike's 5 Star, was by far the best programmer.

Second the sct with 5 star tunes also the spd ypipe should have asked here before you bought the other one can you send it back if so do you aren't going to notice a difference from the K&n really the only other thing you can do besides the tuner and y pipe for a noticeable increase is gears 4.30's with size stock tires. FYI excursions never got the 3 valve like the super duty did in 05.

Yes, your truck has the 2V V-10 and if an automatic it has the 4R100 trans.
I'm in agreement with the guys above, 5Star has invested a lot of time writing great tunes for these V-10s (and 4R100s!) and it shows in their products, love my 5Star tunes.
I also agree with the comment about the K&N not bring much to the table, the factory Cold Air Intake is a great unit and can outflow the engine at redline. And I feel that K&N gauze filters are much better suited for the racetrack than the street, they don't filter as good as a high quality paper filter like the OEM one.
Without question, short of mid to high boost turbo/super charging ($$$) deeper gears are the single biggest performance and towing mod you can do for a V-10. My change from the factory 3.73s to 4.88 gears made my rig feel like a completely different and much better truck!
Welcome to the site, in the future I would urge you to spend some time here searching before spending your money to tap into the "been there, done that" pool of what has and has not been positive mods to these rig by the other members here.

My dad originally had a Diablosport tuner for his 03' and ran the 87 canned tune. The tune was junk with tons of detonation, kept taking timing out of it and still got detonation. Ditched it and got an SCT with tunes from 5 Star.

Diablosport has a good tuning platform but the only way I would run one is with custom tunes. Besides you leave a lot on the table with canned tunes for multiple strategy codes.

I have run an Airaid intake system with the protective sock since day one. I also have a MagnaFlow muffler. Having a more free air flow throughout makes sense to me.

The stock AIS on your truck is more than enough for your NA application and a well design piece. You might want to look into the Gotts mod and the Zoodad mod, these were the only mods Ive seen and actually have done that actually get cold air into your AIS, acording to the butt dyno the Gotts mod picked more low throttle response while the Zoodad help in running colder air dirrectly from outside keeping the air denser giving you some mid throttle response while towing on the freeway. Another + on custom tunes from 5Star and the Y pipe mod as well, but the most expensive but best bang for the buck are gears.

Thanks for the responses to my thread! I'm still not understanding how to get this Mikes 5 Star tuner... Is it something I can order or do I have to go to his shop?

When I got my 5Star tunes this is how it went. Ordered the SCT handheld tuner online during a sale event, the purchase price included the handheld tuner and 5 custom tunes. They sent out the new tuner quickly then I plugged it into my truck's OBDII port under the dash to get the truck's PCM (engine computer) strategy code. I then emailed them (5Star Tuning) and provided my strategy code as well as some particulars about my truck, like the gear ratio, tire size, my Banks headers and the size and weight of the trailer I tow. Shortly thereafter, they emailed me my 5 custom tunes that I wanted, 87 Octane Economy, 87 Tow, 87 Performance, 89 Tow and 89 Performance. I downloaded the new tunes into the handheld device via the included cable from a Windows laptop. With the new tunes in the handheld tuner it is now a 2 minute easy job (simply follow the handheld onscreen prompts and make a few key turns with the engine off) to load any of the custom tunes for whatever I'm planning to do with the truck. very painless process and a great addition to the truck.
