I am watching as well, my cab is rusty on my 57 but it's not as bad as your cab. Appreciate you sharing and give me ideas of how to repair it. D

2X. I really like using what I already have for various things. Why I'm a pack rat. You're doing a body work version of "run whatcha brung".

Thanks guys. No pressure . I stop at Walmart and buy poster board card board in a multi pack like 6 sheets. There like 24"x 36". Some have grids on them. Make a template of the piece you want to replace and use it as a cutting guide.
This is the first piece I cut out
Try not to get too carried away on the hole. I figure keep trimming the hole and the piece till it fits.
I figure baby steps and a lot of looking and thinking of how the original piece was put in there for the repair. Stay tuned hopefully I'll be starting to piece it back together this weekend

No kidding. Man, does the old saying "measure twice, cut once" apply here or what?
I agree just cut what is necessary, I replaced the full floor pan and cab corners on my 64 and they're just not as good as stock. On my 57 I'm doing as little cut out as required as the original just fits better, just need to make sure the metal is thick enough to tack to and not blow a hole.
Keep em coming, got my popcorn and it's cold and snowy here.
