when I bought my 51 f1 it did not have any tubes on the defroster vents so I took a piece of pc pipe that I was using for my sprinkler system and made my own .it worked out good,and that was 8 years ago and still going strong.i hope that this helps

not sure of the diameter, but in a vw project I used the some blue pool hose available at lowes or hd. painted flat black, very durable and much tougher than the paper/tin stuff.
