'48 f1 exhaust pipe question

Please take a look at my exhaust pipe pic showing the front pipe entering the "inlet side" of the muffler and the tail pipe coming out of the other end.
The inlet side fits nice and snug but the other end of the muffler and tail pipe has a lot of space with no snug fit at all. Is this normal?

Would appreciate some help.
Thanks

This is a muffler shop install, the pipes and muffler aren't even close to matching the originals. What size is the engine?

not normal, the tail pipe is the wrong size for the muffler. An adapter from the auto parts store will fix it for a few bucks, or take the tail pipe to an exhaust shop and have them expand the end to fit the muffler.
