Seems to be a bit all over the board. I have about 1500 miles so far and getting about 19 if I stay on the highway at the speed limit, 17 mixed highway / city / rural driving.
(2017 250 SD 3.55 SRW 6.7 Crew Short bed)
I did put a bakflilp on it pretty quickly and have not towed anything yet.
Not claiming I get over 21 mpg, I just filled her up but my distance to empty usually reads 700 miles to empty .. I've been impressed with the mileage out of mine, it does better on fuel than my 15 150 with the 3.5 ecoboost in a similar equipped truck

Interesting stats. You appear to be averaging about 37 mph.
That's where I am. I've settled down into a routine.
- during the week: lots of short trips and a few long idles. If I reset the trip setting, I see 12-13 in town. I'm not driving it hard...gentle actually.
- at least once per week, I'll drive 80 on the interstate. If I reset the trip setting, I'll often see 10.5 or 11 MPG. (Doesn't usually start out that low... it takes a while...almost like it is thinking...trying to see if this is going to be a long enough trip for regen.) But once the mileage drops to 10.5 or so, this is how I know I'm in a regen. (I can confirm by seeing EGT's > 1,000 degrees.) This will last for a LONG time... like at least 30 minutes. Then, as if by magic, it pops up to 17.1... in cruise... 80 MPH...
- if I leave it like that, during the week I see it steadily dropping.
So for me I don't get a break:
In town I get terrible mileage.
On the highway I get terrible mileage.
Seems the only way to get great (17ish) mileage is on trips that are > 1hr.
Disclaimer: I'm not complaining. I knew I was signing up for low MPG when I bought the truck... heck my Ram 1500 gasser often got 8 MPG... so this is actually much better
Exactly Robert......not complaining here either...just stating the facts as to what MY new '17 is doing. I'm not happy with the numbers....since I had better with my 2011 right out of the gate....but I won't drive anything else!! Maybe my first oil change will improve some things
Yeah cpdorroh.....but the problem for me is...I'm not driving over 70 when I'm talking about my work/school/store "city" driving. More like 35-50....and that's where I'm seeing the low mpg. When I do get up on the highway...for an extended trip....yes it starts to improve a bit...but only if I reset the trip and start fresh. This truck seems to be stuck on 14.6.....LOL
Filled up this am at the starting point shown in the screen shot. Most of this was 55-65mph This is the highest i have ever had it read, minor stop and go in the first 1/3 of the trip. Took the shot not far from the end.
It will be back down around 15 as soon as i hit my next regen then climb back to around 15.8-16 on my normal cummute in traffic.

That's is your secret...we travel with five dogs and live in the South Texas and fast idle is a killer!
I hear you on that. My last truck had 104k and 2280 hrs on it, if it wasn't for Atlanta traffic my avg would be closer to 50. I idle this truck a little bit more. Im back down to 17.1 on this tank now, should be hitting a regen soon...Then ive got to drag the tractor to the other side of the state next week
When we are in travel with the 5ver we stop eat, shop etc and mpg can drip into the 8.x with long idles. Ford should look at fast idle on less than 8 cyl to increase mpg.

Cylinder deactivation always seems to create oil consumption problems. But I agree, if it could be done, running 4 cylinders would consume less fuel, create fewer emissions, and still let you folks run the A/C as needed.
