I have 5500 miles on my truck and have gotten around 11.1-11.9 mpg no matter how or where I drive. This weekend I took the truck on a small trip of about 175 miles. When I filled it back up when I got home it got 15.7 mpg!!! I didn't drive any different than I normally do, so why the big increase in mpg? I filled up at the same place I always do, and nothing is different. I'm not complaining just curious? Any idea's?
Break in would have to be my guess too. Never heard of 4mpg during a break in all at once, but if that is it, I would have to agrree with no, "no complaining here."
I have noticed that my motor has been getting better as it breaks in as well. However, with such a jump in mileage for 1 tank, I would tend to average it with the tanks before and after for more of a true mileage figure (I record the mileage for every fillup). It is very easy to have a small amount of filling error skew the figures for one tank. What has been the mileage since that fill up?
Wow - 15.7 with 4.10's and a 5.4. Don't look for answers, just keep driving. Could have been a change from winter fuel or by chance were you parked facing up a really steep hill turning to the left . Glad to here someone gets good mpg once in a while.
Just picked up my truck last week with 6 miles on it and averaged 12.3 on first tank. Will it get better or what should it get? How long to break in or get better gas mileage? F250, Fx4, S/C, 3.73 LS, 6-spd
The computer averages out the total since the last time it was reset, to reset it and start fresh hold down both buttons while on the mpg screen. At first it may jump to 99 mpg but it will average out.
My friend gets 19-20 mpg on his 01 f250 superduty 2wd auto supercab. Becuase he has a chip in it.
I filled it up again today and it averaged 13.7. I don't have the computer, so I do it the old way (miles div by gal). I was getting 11.2-11.8 no matter how or where I drove, so it's getting better. I think the 2wd's will get a little better milage than the 4x4's, so thats why the 19-20mpg. I have 5700 miles on the ol truck so maybe by 10,000 it will be even better ( I can dream can't I)lol
