Im looking to upgrade my steering column in the F1. The previous owner installed a Chinese made CPP column and as many of you know their quality is very poor. I did search FTE found some information I found helpful but thought I would ask if there is any new opinions to offer me. I looked at both manufactures websites and see that the the top sleeve and shift collar /cup is 2 parts on the Flaming River and roughly 2" shorter than the 3 piece counter part of the Ididit column. The tube diameter of the Flaming river is 2" which is identical to the CCP,
while the Ididit is 2 1/4". Unless you guys know of something Im not seeing, Im leaning towards the Flaming River model.
I have a Ididit in my 53 F100 and my 55 Chevy. I've also insatalled several Ididit columns in customers cars, never had an issue with them. Can't speak first hand about Flaming River but I've never heard anything bad about them. Definitely stay away from the Chinese knockoffs, had a customer bring his 55 Chevy to me with one and it was pure garbage.
Thank you all for the input. I have read the document from the LVVTA and although I could feel the poor quality and looseness of the tilt mechanism in Chinese column in my truck, I was still surprised when reading that write up. That article is a great read for anyone planning on purchasing a tilt column. I plan I ordering a new FR column today.
I have a Flaming River column. I picked it up from their plant near Cleveland, Ohio (hence the funny name "Flaming River"). Their facility is very clean and the people most helpful. When I first called them the people that I talked with used English as their first language. I think that they are located in that building. They were most helpful in getting me all the right parts for my '50 F2. Their products are good quality and go together easily.
A friend has a FR column in his 55 and has had issues with the upper bearing. This has resulted in the wheel hub collar rubbing on the upper column housing. He returned the column but had to pay $$$ to get it refurbished...he regrets not buying an Ididit. The column was in the truck for less than 18 months.

Thats odd, there is a 3 year warranty on the FR and lifetime on the Ididit, Although I dont know your friends circumstances.
