I have spent the last hour or so looking for threads about my question.
My brother in law Tim, who is one of the best part time mechanics I know, asked if there was any way to adjust the valves on my 352. Told him what I had seen here is that there isn't any, but he had heard about some sort of shims. Any info would be appreciated. Some of you know I am not ashamed to ask a stupid question. Thanks in advance. Bob
Unless you have a '58 to '60 352 (and not all of them) your motor has hydraulic lifters and a non-adjustable valve train. If you are getting clacking noises you probably have sticky lifters.
If the motor is not pumping oil, fogging with blow-by, and doesn't have visible sludge when you look down the oil fill, you might try a high detergent additive to clear the lifters.
If there is some kind of issue due to valve recession due to seat wear, I would think new or rebuilt heads would be the answer. If there is an issue due to head resurfacing, there are different length push rods available.
Thanks 85e150, that's what I thought but wanted to give Tim the best info that I could. Knowing Tim, we will be looking at something else next weekend. Appreciate the quick response. Bob
