I have a knock coming from the passenger side of my 292. It has caused it to backfire when I put my foot into it rather severely. It also has blown the power valve in my Holley carb. What are some common problems that would cause this. I'm new with mechanical lifters and pushrods. Could it just have a loose rocker or a bent pushrod? There is around 8 to 10k on the motor.
I had the same problem with my 239 Y block some time back.
In my case, it turned out to be a bent pushrod.
My engine never got any oil to the heads (somewhat common with the Y blocks); so I had to pull over every few days, whip out the oil can, and oil the top of the rocker arm shafts.
