Just curious what everyone is using IDS for. I got mine for injector tests mainly but want to make the most of it also. What are some features or tests you guys are using?

Complete engine diagnosing

Transmission diagnosing- able to actuate control valves, monitor turbine & shafts speeds, ect....

ABS brake diagnosing and maintenance- you're able to cycle ABS pump to bleed air and see a speed sensors.

Rear backup assist diagnostics down to each sensor.

Body control switches tests

The list goes on and on.
Just get in there and dig around and try everything. It will get you more familiar with all that it can do so if you do have a problem it will be alot easier figuring it out.

The Turbo Test is nice.

The EGR function test is good too for a truck that requires needing one.

Just like this.

Sounds really nice. You can really hear the whistle.

Thanks guys, I'm still playing around with it and trying to get familiar. Currently running v86 on win7. Is it worth going to v98, any other features? What about to calibrate speedometer, it appears to be off a few mph?

V98 will need to be run with the other tools or you will get locked out.
It not a simple fix once your locked out. v86 will even be locked at that
point.

If you do make sure to do two things. Create a restore point and do a full backup
to an external disk. I like using Acronis True Image to make a clone of the system
drive. Acronis runs fast and does a good job.

I made that mistake. Even with the "tools" I still got locked out. You have to wipe the MBR as that is where v98 reads some data from, iirc. After wiping the entire machine numerous times I gave up and just went with v86. v86 works great for me when I need it. I run a Panasonic Toughbook, C29 I think, that is dedicated to nothing but IDS. It resides in my garage in a drawer with my code readers.

I did too with my first install. Hey, let's just use the latest and greatest! Couldn't get if off. Luckily I had two HDs for the laptop so switched to the other and installed the earlier program. It still wants to access the web to update though, so I just keep WiFi off.

So that is what it's doing. Good to know.
Did you do a Fdisk /MBR to fix it?

It has been a while but I think I tried that too. iirc the software reads the date or last access date from the MBR.

Unless there is some compelling reason to use v91 sticking with v86 is much easier since I only need it to support my 6.0.

I agree that there is no reason for us to move to the newer
v98. Now if you have a newer Ford you might have to but for
the 6.0L engine you really have all you need with the v86.

Thanks for that link I'll have to go read it.
