Every time I see an elusive problem after an engine swap like this, I think about the tone ring problem a few have had here. Whether it was the year change that caused a problem or an engine builder using one from a 6.8 v10 on a 5.4 or vice-versa.
Just a thought.
Is there a way to check that without taking the front cover off? Could the cam phaser on the passenger side cause my issue?
So I got off work today and walked outside briefly and started the truck up. 2 things I noticed
1:The truck ran for a max of 4-5 minutes and it was already at operating temp(the hand was straight up on the gauge). HOWEVER I did not pay attention to the gauge to see if it was already registering like that before I even started it. Letting the engine cool then I'm going to go do it again as well as see what AE is reading vs the gauge in the truck.
2:There is a loud noise that sounds similar to a valve but I'm 99.9% sure it not any of the valves.
I also noticed that if I unplug the coils on bank 1 I get misfire code but if I unplug them on bank 2 I get no codes at all. Unplugged the VCT solenoid and I didn't get a code for that either....hmm maybe I should test the ecm. I also pulled up desire rail psi and AE is ready 3499.9psi of desired which is way to much. I also got a code for OBD systems not ready. Maybe it's a bad ECM? Thoughts?
Since Im not there, I'm going to just throw a bunch of stuff at you :
1. I wonder if the engine timing wasn't set correctly when the chain was put on at the rebuild shop?
2. There is a certain way to program the throttle body once the battery has been disconnected on other ford vehicles, it involves a key on engine off throttle application...look up ford tech makuloco on youtube
3. Spark plugs, many have bought bosch and had troubles right off the bat.
4. The trigger wheel issue I was thinking about, I know it was on a v10....they could have swarped by accident.

5. Are the coils good ones or ebay specials?
6. Possibly the harness was flipped over and connected wrong?
7. Water in fuel?
8. Plugged cats and O2? You said old engine was blowing oil out tailpipe. ...these cats are prone to plugging anyway.

I figured it out!! I'm going to make a new thread just for this issue
At least tell us here in case someone searching for answers finds this thread.
Ok so my thought was that maybe the converter was stopped up and building up pressure and the pressure had nowhere to go so I removed the O2 sensor out of the exhaust so the exhaust could vent out of the hole and sure enough, started it up and it ran smooth as glass
BTW, plugged cats are well known here....search around for a chemical to clean them, I've seen it mentioned a few times but it escapes me now.
Probably will need a new Y pipe and such.
Glad to help.
