So, it does look like the new ones are a bit faster - though it depends on what truck you're comparing them to. Your expy is about 100 pounds heavier than my F150 (regular-cab XL, 4x4, 7700 payload package, 3.73 gears w/5.4L), but it sounds like our acceleration numbers would be pretty similar. I thought that the new one might be a little faster - and 7.8 vs. 8.0 seconds is certainly possible. I'm curious what the truck and car mags get on their acceleration tests...
The truck I'm looking at is an 8,200 GVW extended-cab longbed 4x4 XL or XLT (haven't decided) - Edmunds lists the XLT as having a base curb weight of 5,879 pounds, which is probably the heaviest F150 out there. If I ever find one on the lot, I don't expect it to be any faster than my current truck. So far I've driven several extended-cabs and the one regular-cab I've found, but I really can't compare them to the 8,200 GVW trucks - the ride, handling, and performance should be completely different. Now that Ford has done their official 'kick-off' on the F150, they should start flooding into lots pretty quickly - so hopefully I'll start seeing 8,200 GVW trucks on the lots in the near future.
Did anyone see the NFL Season Kick-Off last night? Flooded with F150 commericals . . . almost made it worth sitting through brittney spears and good charlotte, lol
