I'm deciding if I want one piece side windows on the 56, I will be also buying new window regulators etc. My question is how difficult is it to install the complete set up? right now I have nothing in my doors at all in regards to windows, I read that it is not easy.
Don
I've heard that it's a PIA too. Do you have AC? I've read a few people mention here that they wish they kept the two piece since they don't have AC and being able to direct the air into the cab is a better option than the look of the single window.

no AC at this point, but if I run into a pile of cash I will. but I don't see that happening soon. lol
I have one piece windows in the F1, they were installed by the previous owner. Like many things on the truck I redid the installation which included fabing and welding some bracketry to hold the channels securely in place. Prior to that the windows liked to fall out when closing the doors with the windows in the down position. I don't know where the kit was purchased but it lacked good engineering. Its nice to have the extra room with out the vent window in place for your forearm when cruising with the windows down.
I have been told to keep my vent windows also. As cool as the single glass looks it is a PITA to install and work properly besides like as said above it's nice to circulate air through the cab when there is no AC and the cowl vent is smoothed because it leaked and was in the way of the duel wiper apparatus.
I didn't install AC in mine. I use the cowl vent and that works great to bring in air. I went with 1 piece electric windows. To keep the window in track I made a insert that has 2 functions. It hold the glass in track and is also the pep mirror mount.
I have the vent windows and use them regularly even thought I have AC. I am always amazed at how much air they move. If you don't have AC, I would keep the vent windows. Especially here in Phoenix.
Don, I have installed a few 1-piece side windows in both the 56 and the slant cab models. Of the two, the 56 is much easier since the side window is flat all the way across and the window does not interfere with the hinge pocket as does the slant cab window.
Charlie will attest to the fact I've been working on single door glass for months. I tried every instruction sheet I could find and finally today I got the drivers door glass to operate smoothly. Just kept trying different combinations of shims until something wasn't scrubbing... It has been a chore....
Hint... don't believe any of the instruction sheets they all lie.
Now I will try to duplicate my work on the passenger door. Would I do it again ??? Yes, but with Ne-relic guts... this SPW stuff is too hard for an old man
I was going through all my stuff today and see that I have all these brand new parts for the stock set up, but I'm not exactly sure where these go and I know you guys will know.
Those are the window channel felts, one goes in the channel in the vent window assembly and the other goes in the channel in the door itself. In the 1-piece window kit these two pieces are replaced with a single felt section.
