Replacing Idler Pulleys

Neither have failed but at 136K it is one of those preventative maintenance things I like to do. Looking for premium replacements. Any suggestions?

Your Ford ones are still going well at 136K, seems like they've worked fine for you. While I read about a failure here and there, it isn't something frequent suggesting the Ford parts are sub-par. I'd just go back with Ford ones personally...

Sorry, I haven't heard of upgraded units so can't help you there...

Why not just remove them and repack the bearings then reinstall, easy peasy slick and easy!

Thank you! I'm soooo doing this when the belt comes off this weekend for the water pump install!!

I'll hit seals with a heat gun to warm it up and hopefully prevent it from cracking.

Buy the bearings from your choice of supplier and press out the old bearings. Then press in new ones.

about 50 dollars for the bearings.

I will look and see if I have the bearing number somewhere.

I would just replace the bearings. The P/N is 6303-2RS Bearing 17x47x14 Sealed Ball Bearing. It just presses in. I paid under $10 for a bearing.

I'd definitely replace the bearings. You can't tell if the rollers or races have been scored by pulling the seals.

To all, thanks for the info and the bearing number. Just started to get a little squeal so I'll just replace the bearings.

I paid about $7 each for the bearings from my local Trans-Bearing store, so any specialty shop that sells bearing and seals. And they were a very good quality.
