I was going to swap the gears but the clutch seemed fine and the gear wasn't sheared so all I could assume is it's not engaging

And the other gear was chewed up bad

If you can't turn the motor by the snout bolt with a breaker bar, something's bad inside.

I had a head gasket go one time. It filled one cylinder with water and you couldn't turn the engine over. I thought the starter had locked up at first and put a new one in same thing. As PapaBear said, I figured something was wrong on the inside. Started pulling plugs and OH LOOK there's water. Hope you find the problem

Funny you mention this as "hydraulic lock" was my first thought when he said he couldn't turn it over...

My guess was a dropped valve or slipped timing chain causing valve interference

Not sure what motor you have in there, but unless you have a really high lift cam you aren't going to have to worry about valve interference. It's not like a Honda Civic. I would pull plugs and see if it will crank over as suggested above.

Pull the plugs and try turning over. I agree most likely a blown head gasket. Hopefully it didn't get hot enough to crack the head(s) and or block.

The head gasket is blown at cylinder 2 but my motor isn't happy so it's not the only issue

Thumbs up Yup

That'll do it .................... Im a wanna be mechanic and rebuilt my own heads this last summer with an Elgin valve and spring set for about $121. Hand lapped, hours of polishing and cleaning and they run like a champ.... Pushrods are about $30..... Of coarse its kind of a sin not to use new lifters with new push rods... you can get the combo for around $75 ish...... My opinion, new lifters (and matching cam if you really wanna do it right) new pushrods, rebuild your own heads and your done under $200..........and the peace of mind that you did the work, so you know it was done right..... good luck, and I know money money money..... but along the way your also putting in new head gaskets and intake gasket, so its all knocked out in one shot !

my 351m was bending pushrods because the valves were so gummed-up that they were sticking. I was going to rebuild the heads, but the magnaflux said they were both cracked. Ended up buying 400 heads from an outfit in Texas...and a Summit RV cam, lifters, timing set, water pump, pushrods, intake manifold, head gaskets, 4 bbl Holley...

Wow. Seized camshaft bearings. Seems like a loss of oil pressure
