Engine Swap
#16
Well, the turbo was seized up when I bought the truck. I rebuilt the turbo and upgraded the compressor wheel. It "seems" to work pretty well. How would I know if it's the turbo?

In addition to rebuilding the turbo, I also purchased the NON-EBPV pedestal. How would this cause the blue smoke though?

swap with a known good turbo but that is a lot easier said than done
other than that is to inspect up pipes and down pipes for oil which the up pipes are not easy to get at
Have you given it a good hard blast up a hill?
When I did my injector o rings, lots of oil went into the uppipes and into exhaust. it all burnt out on my first trailer pull onto the high way when my EGT hit 1200

I'm not sure if it's relavent or not, but today I finally did the "oil cap test". It did not even come close to blowing the cap off. The vibration of the engine made it slide, but the blow-by was not enough to move the cap.
Also, when I got on it kinda hard, I heard an audible knock from what appeared to be the passenger's side.
I'm thinking about pulling all of the injectors this weekend, checking the seals, and re-torquing them. Anyone think this is a good idea/bad idea?

Easy way to check which bank and cylinder is causing the smoke, is by removing each valve cover connector individually while the engine is running, if the smoke don't stop either something went wrong with the turbo rebuild, or your exhaust may be drenched in motor oil and won't burn off quickly causing all that blue smoke.

I REALLY like this truck. These old body styles really have a lot of character, but this one is giving me fits. I would say that it's driving me to drinking, but, at this point, it would probably breakdown on the way. I sure wish I lived near some Powerstroke gurus. Anyone near Milner, GA? Haha!! I appreciate all of the online help nonetheless.

I know. You're right. Since I've had the truck, I put a ton of work into it. It was really in bad shape when I got it, but it was supposed to be a project and it's lived up to that label pretty well. It just gets a little discouraging sometimes when you fix something and find there's 3 other things that need to be fixed now. Haha!! This forum has been a huge help! I've been able to find the answers to most of the issues that I've had, thankfully.

So, today I took the great advice of pulling the plugs to the UVCH and I think I found the effected section. When I pulled the front passenger's side plug the truck stopped smoking and quieted down some.
The front passenger's side is where it "sounded" like the knock that I heard was coming from. Would this make sense? If one of these injectors have an issue, would it cause a knock sound?
