How much can you trust a 99-2001 7.3 with over 210,000? I k ow the 7.3 is a solid engine but what if the previous owner put some mods on it?

It doesn't matter how many miles are on it. Some of the pickups that we purchased here at work had well over 220K -250K miles. Not one of my personal ones has less than 258K miles (the most modified one having 276K). However, I have also come across many, many of these with mid-100K that have dead cylinders, severe ring wear, injector problems, bad transmissions, et al. due to various things like oil changes or missing air filters for god-knows-how-long.

I know what you're saying. I found two on a Facebook page. Problem being one has a bit of a lift and some mods an the other has a couple mods. I generally feel that trucks like that may have possibly been beat on. Would I be correct in that assumption?

The likely answer is "yes". However, I owned a powerstroke a long time ago that I lifted 21 inches and put 49-inch tires on. That was the most babied pick up that anybody could ever own.

Right. Is it against the rules if I put a screenshot of the posts on here for you to read?

Dunno. Try it. The worst that would happen is a moderator will remove them.

I wouldn't be worried about the mods so much as how was the truck taken care of. Was it maintained? Oil and filter changes. Does the truck look good for what it is? I know that doesn't tell the whole story, but it does lean towards a good truck that someone took care of.

Another way to look at modifications= the person was interested in or invested in their vehicle.

I personally have have seen more unmolested unmaintained trucks
than modified unmaintained trucks.

Right. I've been closing in on '93 IDI flatbed for under 3000. Less than 100,000 on the odometer. Just can't convince people because of it being a non turbo diesel and has a flat bed.

The white one is out. The silver one is still in question. The guy said he's taken very good care of it. Never been off-road. Only thing I have a problem with is the fact there are two spots where rust has made a hole. One wheel well one cab corner. Not sure what it costs to fix it. Without Bondo.

As already mentioned...depends on how well it was taken care of.
Mine has over 313K miles on it and still runs strong. I only run T6 synthetic and changed every 5K.
I would take it cross country.

Good call on ditching the white one. The ad was full of excuses, justifications, and unwritten caveat emptors. The final 'stroke in that ad is that the seller would happily trade for another 7.3. Excuse me? He's already GOT a 7.3. It isn't like he said he was looking for a bigger cab like the second seller with the silver truck said. So what's so hopeless about the 7.3L he's got that would make him rather trade for the unknowns of a different 7.3L?

The language in any ad can be indicative of the kind of person the seller is. Clearly, that person isn't capable of seeing things from a buyer's point of view. Lucky for you.

[haha, good deal. I can't seem to find any literature on the cost of fixing rust without Bondo. The silver one has a cab corner and rear wheel wells with a small spot with a hole through it.
