what size battery does the hold down fit? I was thinking about just doing the tray and welding it in.

appreciate everyone's help/advice.

It fits any 24 series (6.75" wide) battery. You could just weld it to the fender apron, but it will be much harder to replace next time.

I already have to patch a small section on the fender apron so wont be welding the tray directly there. the brackets seem solid, just the tray took a **** due to the rust.

will check the battery I have now(po im sure changed it to whatever) and see what size it is...may end up just getting the kit since I have a hold down but it doesn't fit the battery I have just right.

this project truck is like jig saw puzzle...search until you find the right piece lol

my attempt at welding

I just welded up my new battery tray from Maryland Mustang yesterday. Note that it is not identical to the reproduction from Tom's Bronco Parts. I had to add 3 of the holes in the bottom. I coated both sides of the tray in KBS chassis paint (same as POR-15).

Even with my pathetic welding skills I managed to pull this off, so anyone who can read this post and has the dexterity to turn their laptop on could make this repair.

Picture above is the top side, below is the bottom.

nice! I don't have great welding skills, still learning so it should be a fun little project welding this tray to the brackets. the tray I got is for the bronco so shall see how the fitment is.

This was advertised as being for the Bronco also. I figured it was the same one as Tom's but clearly it is not. It's nothing like any Mustang tray, just happens to be a part they carry.

That's the same tray I bought. I added the other holes in the "cross" to be more like the original. However, I didn't attempt to weld up the 2 large holes outside the cross.

I don't care about it looking original just need it to hold the battery and as long as it is the correct width etc for me to weld to the old brackets im good with that lol.
