Do reverse LEDs cause same issues as rear brake LEDs?
And often reported problem is the torque converter not locking up and the cruise control not working after LEDs are installed in the rear brake lights and turn signals.
does replacing the white reverse bulbs have the same affect? Or can I install them without a resistor…
I have replaced every bulb in my truck with LEDs (including the reverse lights), except for the headlights and front turn signals, and I've never had any problems without resistors.
Now I'm not sure if still having standard bulbs in the front is keeping me from having issues. But if your only doing reverse lights, I don't think you'll have any problems.
About the same girthThose that have taken pictures of lights know that it is hard to tell the difference with a camera. The difference here is not dramatic, but a noticeable improvement. Installs in socket just like the stock bulb does Part number LED ondriverside Standing on bumper, LED on the right Stock bulb only LED bulb only
No resistor needed in reverse lights. I have them on my E4OD equipped flatbed truck. I did need to wire in resistors for the LED brake lights though. My LED's had no resistor built in, and without an external resistor wired in parallel to the LED brake light they would glow with all lights off & converter would not lock. No such issue with reverse as reverse lights are not used as part of the trans wiring.
LED reverse lights are like reverse headlights, they rock. I wish I'd have wired in a switch so I could turn them on without the truck being in reverse.
I think Brad has pointed out elsewhere that the pre-92 tail lights had a clear reverse lense that wrapped around and put more light to the sides. This and a bright, but non-directional bulb like I got, might be a worthwhile effort.
For me, if I need more light, and I do, I'll wire in a separate LED of some sort.

87- 89 had the wrap around backup lens
But no matter what lens you put int, you would be FAR better off putting a set of LED ATV 27watt 60* flood lights under the bumper. It is like having headlights behind you. Ebay has them for under $30 for a pair
