It's official for the 2018 F-150....Expedition too?
Ford has plans for the 2018 F-150 to have a Diesel engine.... finally! So, for the lost in the past gang who still won't give up their Excursions, like me , will Ford become the innovator they've always been and put the Diesel in their Expedition?
I had a somewhat strained and heated debate with a Ford engineer some time ago here on FTE and demonstrated to him the need but he was "stuck on the corporate line" of never ever gonna see the Diesel or large V8 in the Expy. I not an automotive engineer but I am part of the buying public who needs large interior capacity along with 10K+ tow capacity.
So ... is it time?

Ford F-150 diesel coming in 2018 | Fox News
Over the years I have seen too many posts like this, from Ford & GM. I would prefer that you change the verbage... "still won't give up their Excursions, like me" TO "still won't REPLACE their Excursions". We need a replacement.
Without a good replacement, it is very difficult to give up a vehicle. Believe me, I know. Still amazing that they haven't put the nice Expedition SUV body, that they have now, onto the new Super Duty chassis that they have now. There are a lot of recreationalists and businesspeople, that have large bumper pull trailers, and would like an enclosed office/passenger van/cargo&tools hauler. With a rear view camera hooking up to a bumper pull, is quick and easy, especially with the towing capacity and air ride suspension, making a weight distributing hitch unnecessary.

I would say it is pretty sure bet that the MY18 Expedition will have the 2nd Generation 3.5L V6 Ecoboost with a number of improvements and matched up to the 10 speed automatic transmission, as used in the MY17 F150.
375hp@5,000rpm, 470 lbft@2,500 3.5L V6
*Boost is 16psi, up from 14psi.
BorgWarner turbo has new lightweight(improved response) super-
alloy, more sharply angled turbine wheels. Turbo Waste gates are
controlled electronically.
*Port (just outside the cylinder) Low Pressure fuel injection
added to existing High Pressure Direct Injection
. DI system and mechanical pump are shutdown at low speeds and
low loads, reducing friction losses and emissions. Both systems
run at start-up to reduce cold-start emissions. Both systems
also provide extra fuel for high demand in HO version in Raptor.
*Hollow camshafts, with roller-finger follower valvetrains, and
more durable intake and exhaust valves. Hydraulic valve lash
adjustment.
*Standard automatic engine start/stop when vehicle is stopped.
For trucks, exception when towing or in four-wheel-drive mode.
An electric pump integrated into the new 10 speed automatic
transmission, supports this start/stop system.
*Engine package is 4 pounds lighter overall.

I don't see it happening. The Expedition is already rated to tow 9300 lbs and I suspect that much more would require a switch to a solid axle and I don't see Ford taking a giant step backwards there, and if they make that switch they likely loose the fold flat rear floor which is so useful. The current EB motor is a beast and has diesel-like torque characteristics. When the EB2 motor makes its way into the expedition it will be 375 hp and 470 tq (+10/50). I agree with the post above that a better solution would be to put an Expedition L like body on the F250/350 platform and perhaps name it Excursion. ;^)

Not too surprising - Ford (and the other manufacturers) need to have things to announce at the other shows as well. I'm sure they will unveil the Expy and GT500 at some other venue.
