Time for a facelift

Taking the first steps towards a smooth clean look today. All that tan/gold/whatever you call it is coming off.

I like the white and tan combo. What are your plans?

The 1st stage will be changing front bumper to a stock 05 style, rear bumper to 08 style, and remove all the cladding. Level out the nose with the rear, update to late model factory 20" wheels, and replace the headlights with Harley lights with retrofit projectors which will happen last because they're not done yet.

The 2nd stage I'll have a body shop handle sometime this summer I think. Bushwacker OE flares, Match the bumpers to the body color, remove the pin-striping (it's painted on right now), properly line up all the panels, properly paint the mirror caps, take out various dings and nicks, and put a gloss black on the door pillars between the front and rear doors.

Then I might do something with the new wheels or I might leave them aluminum. I'm not sure. I have a feeling they'll look better in a translucent black powdercoat or something though.

Man I wish you lived closer. I've been hunting for a ranch hand front bumper like yours since I've bought my truck. I'd gladly buy it from you. Keep us updated as you do the work!

Exclamation FYI

Remove the cladding carefully and you'll be able to sell it on ebay.

I know the feeling! If you get froggy for a trip, this one is in great shape!

I'll give it a shot. I managed to change the bumpers and pull the cladding last night and the cladding held up well. I'll take a progress pic later on.

The late model 20s will have a spacing issue. If you go with spacers and the oem wheels, make sure you get hub & wheel centric spacers. IMO, the oem wheels, even with the spacers, are not offset enough to look good with the added flares without getting much wider tires too.

And of course the issue with wide tires is the OEM wheels are only 8 inches wide. I'll keep that in mind with the flares. I may have to make another wheel change when the time comes.

I have been playing musical chairs with wheel and tire packages on mine trying to find the right fit. I have tried 6 different sets, including 20" oem that I borrowed for awhile. It is amazing how different the ride and handling changes with the size changes, especially when going wider. I think its better to spend the time to trial fit certain sizes before I get stuck spending a couple grand on wheels that I don't like after getting them on and not be able to return them.

There are a lot of people looking for cladding nationwide to fix their wrecked/previously wrecked Excursions. Body shops have to source them used, and they are hard to find in good shape. I sent mine to NY to a FTE member up there.

Let me know what you come up, I'm very interested. Wider tends to make the vehicle want to follow inconsistencies in the road in my Mustang. Have you found the same true in your Excursion?

Good to know. I'll have to do some market research and figure out what they're worth. Thanks for the tip.

Some quick progress pics. Need to wash it real good before I take the adhesive eraser to it and put on the XL quarter panel trim pieces. This is after the front drop shackles are installed. After a trip up and down the street (after these pics were taken) the height looks dead on front to back now.

I want to swap rear bumper too. Did you have to use original parking sensors or sensors that came with new bumper?
