Finally got my 79 f100 street worthy today! Drove it about 5 miles and it ran decent. Still have a few kinks that need to be worked out but I'm just happy to have it running. Now I can start paint prep. Thank you all for your info and opinions!

No problem. No hurry we just love our truck ****. How about the stats of your truck. Like is it 2wd/4wd? What engine and trans does it have? What gears are in the truck? And what all have you done to make it yours?
It's a 1979 f100, 2wd, 351m, mostly stock so far. The truck is a shortbed stepside. Replaced original distributor with an HEI one, has an aftermarket 2bbl carb. Just got it running again last week. I had overpaid to get the original carb rebuilt, started the truck, then the carb crapped out on me so I got a refund and just replaced it. Also removed smog stuff. Not sure what gear it has. Not sure how to check honestly. So far it has the original burgundy paint job, which is peeling and oxidized and will be replaced by orange and black hopefully this spring. I'm planning on painting it myself. I know it won't be perfect but it will be better than it is now and another learning experience. I'm 15 years old, and have a little under a month before I get my license. I can't tell you how much I've learned from this truck. I worked all summer to raise money to start getting it ready to drive. One thing at a time and eventually it'll be how I want it. Starting prep work for the paint as soon as this snow goes away. Will post pics soon
Yes, my first truck. My dad and I went halves on it when I was 11. He wanted to buy me a project truck so I could work on it and get it how I want. We bought a from a guy whose dad originally bought it in 79. He was in the military. Apparently the truck ran but had a problem that they couldn't remember. He was deployed and when he came back, he left the truck sitting. It hadn't been moved since then. This was all 25+ years ago. Then about 4 years ago we bought it. I hadn't gotten serious about working on it until a few months ago. Now it runs and drives
That's a great back story on your truck. It sounds like you've got a good level head on your shoulders. Any questions that you have now or in the future don't hesitate to ask. We have plenty of knowledgeable fellas here. And we all are willing to help where we can. Also if you scroll all the way to the bottom of the forum list page you'll see local state chapters. Be sure to check out your states chapter. Who knows you may meet some new friends and find someone with a hard to find part that you may be need of.
A shortbed with A 351 sounds like a sweet machine. You remind me alot of myself. My dad gave me his 79 when I was your age. Now I'm 48 and still drive that truck everyday. I can still remember driving it around the farm before I had my license listening to Madonna's first hit on the am radio.
