oiling issues 77 400m

I am redoing a 53,000 mile 77 f150 4x4.I put a 510 lift comp cams cam in it and replacement roller hydraulic lifters,1/2" shorter push rods to allow for the height difference in lifters. Before installing new hei distributor I used a oil pump primer rod but no matter how long I ran the drill on oil pump I never got oil in the heads .no sign of oil in the top half of the motor but when I quit there is a sound like oil running back down into the motor.I tried to get the motor to fire but nothing..there is gas in the carb, spark to the plug and even without oil there seems to be enough lift to open the valves but somehow it does not start...any ideas?

The drill needs to spin counter-clockwise

If you spun the pump the wrong direction, take it out and put in a new one. Ask me how I know. You might get a year or so but then it will fail. To prime the pump drive spins counter clockwise, and I have to loosen the oil filter until it shoots oil out or they never prime, even with oil.
