Water in oil, 2000 7.3

Back story:

Bought the truck 1000 miles from home, ran great, checked oil it was black and well used, coolant was milky and degas bottle had some pressure in it.

Drove 200 miles fine, 75mph lots of power, no smoke, no overheating.

While cruising felt slight stumble, and lost hot air from the heater (started blowing cold), saw temp needle move slightly (still under 1/2 mark) and pulled over. Truck stalled on the offramp, and I was not able to get it to fire. I checked oil and it was same dark black. Coolant was low, down to about 2.5 gallons

Towed it home, oil change, coolant flush, new thermostat, rebuilt IPR, and it fired right up. Ran great, smooth.

Noticed slight haze out of the exhaust at idle, and puffs of white smoke when on throttle. Checked oil and it was milky

Where to look? Thanks

Oil cooler would be first stop if it were me looking at the same problems you are. Other than that, I think you will have to get down to the injectors/cups... Some one with a lot more knowledge will be a long shortly though.

Pulled oil cooler, ordered orings for it and gonna start there...reseal cooler and oil change, run to see if it still mixes

Next step would be pull injectors, pressurize degas bottle and look for cracked cup (s)

Hopefully it's not a cracked block. The metal recycling joint has gotten two of them from me that put coolant in the oil.

injector cups put fuel in the water.
oil cooler "normally" (not always) puts oil in the water or oil on the ground.
corroded timing covers will put water in oil.

I would do a leak test on the cooling system after the oil cooler is back in - but before adding oil or plugging the oil pan. You need to make absolutely certain you've collared this puppy before risking the oil and injectors.
