I was driving by a dealership the other day and saw a bumper I liked on a truck. I didn't recognize it, so I was wondering if anyone knows what it is. There were no markings on it and I have not been able to find it. It certainly isn't a homemake, so a little help is appreciated.
Ya, they definitely have a lot of bumpers. I like the ranchhand ones, but they are all powder coated diamond plate metal. I like the smooth finish. I'll do some more poking on this site, as it has more than the other sites i've checked out.
Ranchand bumpers are junk, I say this because I just seen an accident today driving to a job. Bumper was on a 2500hd and a lady ran a light in a late 90's Era Tahoe. The ranchand folded back and up and smashed right through the headlight turn signals fender Tire hood and what looked like the radiator support also. We were on a 35mph road so it wasn't like a highway crash.
I've heard that before but not from the bumpers being junk but rather the fact that they don't work like the factory bumpers are designed. The factory bumpers along with the frame are designed to give way or crumple in an accident to absorb the impact and these ranch hand and other bumpers are all welded up and don't. So I don't think it is an issue with them being junk but rather since they don't bend and give way they tend to do more damage than good when in an accident.
I really like the legend rear bumper but I'm not taking a perfectly good factory bumper off and spending more money.
As far as one on the front I think they will pay for themselves if you live where there are tons of deer and hogs, or where one rock or debris tree limb shrapnel whatever could simultaneously take out a radiator, ac condenser, intercooler.... or if you have a push gate. So if you really like them then get one but they can get old after a while after the thrill is gone.
