Some seriously bad vibration

First notice a popping noise when turning left, 4 months later that popping noise happened when turning right, not long after that I heard that popping noise when going over bumps. Then when I applied brakes at slow speeds it would vibrate and rattle and stuff but nothing too bad. When accelerating at 30mph every time it would vibrate then stop, when cruising at 45 right before overdrive it starts to vibrate. So today I'm driving home and before over drive the vibrating starts and never stops, drove the truck home at 5mph because the vibrating was so damn bad. No idea where to start. Warped rotors, bearings, ball joints? Everything up front seems firm nothings loose but maybe if I jack it up and look for play I'll" find something. Truck has a poor mans 3in lift with 35s.

Sounds like a few things could be going bad. The popping over bumps might be the sway arm end links. Do you feel it in the floor boards? That's where I felt mine. The vibration could be the carrier bearing or u joints. I get a small vibration just right as I go into overdrive at around 48-50mph but then goes away. That's been going on in the 10 years I've owned mine. I'm not sure about the popping when turning.

dang so there's a little play in the carrier bearing but really not much, I don't know if I should drop it and see or not

Frozen U Joints would be my guess.

Yep,

The song sounds familiar. Generally on our trucks it is a u-joint. On Mine it's always the rear in front of the diff.

Drop your shaft and you will know right away. If it's bad, replace them all. I buy spicers since moog went overseas. They last a lot longer.

You mentioned that you lifted the truck. Anytime you lift a rig it changes the pinion angle of the drive shafts which accelerates wear on the u-joints and will also amplify a driveline problem.

With the popping, as stated above, check your sway bar end links. Again, when you lift a rig, you'll also be addressing the tracking arm up front. Check those bushings as well.

Let us know what u find and good luck with it!!!

That's exactly what it was and carrier bearing was fine. I'm looking into some new shocks since I can't seem to find anything wrong elsewhere, these tuff country's hardly have any travel at all and are 9 years old. Ur right about the bushings, just cuz stuff feels firm doesn't need mean anything. I might as well change em all.

I am glad it all worked out.

How do you like your Trutrac?

If you have a 4x4 you might want to check out the front U Joints behind the front wheels...

I don't have a rear, just replaced the entire links up front cuz I don't have a press.

Thanks. I'm dealing with the rear here: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1469375-what-the-hellwig-was-that-recommend-against-2.html

I have a vibration I'm trying to figure out around 55-65mph. Similar to when I had an issue with the rear universal, but not as severe. Same kind of harmonic making drone, though.

I know I have a few bushings bad up front, didn't really think much about the sway bar links until I read your thread. Thanks!
