So is anyone else besides me a little miffed that they limit the towing capacity to 8,000#?
Yeah, I know about the tires, but 90 percent of these trucks are going to be used as daily drivers and mall crawlers.. Why not offer it with an uprated towing capacity with the right tires?
10k would do it for me...
I thought it was because of the long travel suspension??
I can understand that and with an equalizing hitch can make use of the entire suspension system - Still, there's a large delta between 5k and 8k where most vehicles not built specifically to tow are rated (5k)..
If someone can afford this, than they can afford to have a 2nd, older truck, to tow/haul things around with. I wouldn't put anything more than groceries in one.. If I had one. Come to think of it, I don't really put anything more than groceries in my 250 either, lol... Oh, there was that single sheet of plywood one time....
Hmmm... the towing specs seem vague after having watched reviews and read a bunch on the www.. I suspect that this is correct - which makes it even worse...

No money tree in the back yard here... it would be nice to not have an extra vehicle to insure, have in the driveway, maintain, etc. etc...
I don't know about you, but I don't think I would pile my family into an F250 crewcab beater and tow the camper across the country on a long vacation. Sounds like a recipe for disaster / trouble..
With the HP/TQ of the high performance Ecoboosted 3.5, it should be able to easily match the F250's 6.2 gasser in towing capability.
So really, it's down to suspension and tires...

It does seem strange that the SuperCrew is rated to tow 2k more than the SuperCab.

Just saw a vid about this somewhere. The crewcab just has stiffer springs in the back, because its heavier. And the longer wheelbase helps for towing. I believe that was the extent of the rating difference.
Funny though, because Ford's racing team, fitted their competition supercab raptor, with stiffer than stock springs. I wonder if they just put crewcab springs on it. Besides that, and gutting the interior, I think it's otherwise stock.
btw, I saw a blue 17' raptor, all by itself, way up on the top level of a delivery truck, parked outside my dealer. I guess these are hitting the streets right now? I was just driving past, kind of fast, but it caught my eye. Had the side graphics package too.

I saw one a week ago here in Fort Wayne. It was already personally plated, no dealer or temp plate. White with graphics package. Sounded amazing.
