Hello everyone. After reading these forums for the longest times and owning a bronco, 3 explorers and 2 rangers I finally decided to go for what I really wanted .... today I picked up my new 2003 Gray Lightning. Man that is some machine.. grinned like a kid when I drove it home. I now know what all you people have been talking about this whole time.... and thats only after owning it for 12 hours. First question..how dirty do those light gray seats get? Any seat cover recommendations? Any input is appreciated.
I've had my 03 DSG for a couple months now and if you take some measures the seats seem to stay pretty clean.
After jet skiing, I now change versus riding back on a towel.
After doing stadiums and working out I change shirts and ride on a towel. The area that will get nasty the quickest will be the front left corner of the drivers seat, right where the back of your knee rests, it will have constant contact with the oil, sweat, etc. off your body.
Wet Okeole (think that's how you spell it) supposedly makes good seat covers...
Thanks for the input. This truck has been such a thrill to drive. I am 46 and must be going through some midlife crises. Last few vehicle purchases were so close to a porsche or a vette ..but always end up at the ford dealer and have loved each choice, but this has been THE truck of choice since 1999 for me but never had the ba**s till now ........

Well I guess it goes without saying that we all hate you now, you DO understand that right ? It's the old "lightning envy" thing. Even though I do have the mighty V-10, I would run away with my tail between my legs if you pulled up next to me at the light. So yes, now you are officially a dog, have a good day,,, hahaha

Hey ken04........ with that mighty V-10 you could always hook a chain up to my garage and drive away with the Lightning, the garage and everything in it !!!

If I could get away with it, and since I need another garage, I will be fighting the urge to do just that. What was it, MotorTrend or Car n Driver or maybe Road and Track (the three car rags I subscribe to) that had the top spped test ? Here's all the high powered, high dollared, high falutin cars from Italy, Germany and the like, and then, there it was, a Ford F-150. But no ordinary F-150 was this, it was the Lightning. Funny though, no one made lokes about it, or acted like it didn't belong cause the thing ran almost 150 mph. Which would have been the winner in the high speed shoot out just a few years ago !! Imagine that, imagine a few years ago (maybe 10 years-ish?) pullin into a test like that. Here's a Ferrari, there's a Lamborghini, and a Maserati, a Porsche, a Benz, etc, etc, etc. And into the driveway pulls a standard cab Ford pick-up. Of course 10 or so years ago there was no Lightning, so there would be nothing but unsuspecting victims, er, uh, drivers. Can you imagine the look on their faces as you smoke by them and their $80+ thousand dollar foreign machinery on the front straight in your $35K Ford pick-up with the tow hitch and a usable bed ? So don't give me any ideas about throwing a chain around your garage, especially with that Lightning inside, you just never know,,,,,,,
Congrets man you will love it. thats the good news now the bad news. You will be subjected to the constant moding drug, yes it is a drug. Try to be strong....
Thanks to all. I am already trying to decide on cosmetic mods ( custom hood, stainless grilles ). This week was a drop in bedliner and threw in some new Alpine speakers in the fronts to get a little better sound. Actually did wonders without killing the wallet.
Its like buying a Harley .......... you have to personalize it ..make it yours ..love it
