I posted a thread about my 97 F-150 having a rough idle and it trying to stall. I'm having more problems, I was told it was probably the IAC, now would that screw up when it's humid? I'm having most of my problems when it's hot and humid and today was the first time driving in the rain and man was it screwing up big time. Between 1700 and 2000 rpm it would try to stall out. My accelaration is pitifull. Sometimes it accelerates fine and other times it's a real dog. It sputters until about 3000 rpm then it takes off like a SOB. Would the IAC do all of those problems or do I have a multitude of problems?. These are the things I've done so far:
clean MAF sensor
checked for vacuum leaks - none
With spray bottle I sprayed every connector and sensor i could find with water - nothing.
My neon was doing this and it was the O2 sensors but I don't have a check engine light coming on and my scanner showed no codes. Please help
Well, if the problem doesn't go away when you apply gas, then you can rule the IAC out. All it does is hold the butterfly valve open when there is no tention on the throttle cable.
I'd have to agree with lxman1 about the plug wires, you may want to change them out regardless. Also check the condition of the air filter.
the air filter is new, It's engine is the 5.4. As far as I know it doesn't have plug wires it has coils and each plug. It had a tune up about 20,000 miles ago. I checked all vacuum lines and found no leaks
I think the MAF sensor it self may be bad. Moisture in the air causing it to read incorrectly, especially when raining (shorting it out in a way). You may try driving without it plugged in and see if its any different/better. I don't know if it will even run on a Ford without the MAF but its a decent test on other vehicles.
