I am going to purchase new brake rotors. Some part stores suggested "slotted rotors." Are they that much better for 3 to 4 times the cost of regular rotors? I also understand you would have to buy the "carbon" pads.

The slotted rotors do help braking some. The Explorer brake setup has never been known for being a real performance item, so really any upgrade is an improvement. I have slotted rotors with carbon pads and steel brake lines. Here are mine:

Thanks! I just noticed that pic was taken before the brake lines were put on. I don't know which were the better idea - the rotors or the lines, but they both made a sizeable difference in stopping...
