I keep hearing that the '17 Super Duty trucks cost more to repair after collision due to the aluminum body. I really don't know if this is fact or not, but I bet the insurance companies know. Has anyone noticed an increase in collision rates insuring the new Super Duty?
John
Yes the aluminum body does cost more to repair, as far as insurance rates due to this, I have not seen huge increases in insurance due to the super duty or F150. My insurance rates are only increasing approximately $150 per year for me to replace my 2006 F350 with the 2017 F350.
Just called my insurance company (Farmers) to put a binder on my new KR. The rate actually went down about $300.00 from what my 2012 Lariat is.
My wife asked why, as she was quite surprised, and was told that the '17s are a safer vehicle.

Full coverage on my 2005 F150 was $1037 a year. Full coverage on my 2017 F350 CC Long Bed Diesel is $835.

I recently replaced my wife's 2014 Jeep Overland with a 2017 Jeep Summit that listed almost $10K more than the 2014. To my surprise, my insurance also went down $300. Insurance company also said the reason was most likely the safety features on the 2017s. First time in about 50 years that my insurance went down after a new car purchase. Al
I think major accidents cost more in materials, though the design is intended to cut down on labor cost vs the old cab. On minor bumps often the aluminum is cheaper to fix. I hit one on the lot and the 3rd party dent guy told me I was luck it was a new truck because the older one would have creased and true body work would have to have been done.
