They've been opening/closing highway 9 between Saratoga and Santa Cruz on an almost hourly basis. It's been re-opened, and re-closed at least 4 times since midnight. Numerous mud and tree slides, and there seems to be more coming. Our main route to the valley is over highway 9, but it's not been too reliable the last week or so.
Our second choice is Page Mill Road down into Palo Alto/Los Altos. As narrow and winding as it is, it's been staying open for the most part.
Third choice would be highway 84 down into Woodside. That has a few mudslides too, but up near the top about 1/2 the road has gone down the mountain. It's about a 300' slip-out, and I'm guessing they are going to be working on it a couple years. They're doing triage on it right now, but it looks like a band aid.
Highway 1 to 156 to 101 to 85 to 280 and then Page Mill exit to get my Pop to the Palo Alto VA Medical Hospital is the route I drove many, many, many times for years, before my dad passed in 2003.
Keep the rubber on the road. It's getting chippy out there!

After my helper texted in sick yesterday, which was BS, I had a hard time dragging my butt down to Santa Clara.Stormy weather tends to bring out the stupid in people, driving that is.
Last night was interesting. Helped a friend move, and by helping I drove the u-Haul truck and then watched them carry everything. However, during this time the thunderstorms arrived, and then the hail. Never seen hail in Fresno before. Saw it down south, but not here. Also, before the hail, it was like someone was playing with the water faucet. Pouring rain for about 5 minutes, then sprinkles, then pouring rain, then sprinkles again.
Yes indeed, there was so much hail on the ground it looked like a thin blanket of snow, and it was tricky to walk on the asphalt because I kept slipping. Had to go slower than usual (which is pretty slow already LOL) but I never fell.
Been in bed with this cold that is going through my house.....picked up an F350 last week. Been real busy at shop, but I think we are about caught up this week. Weather has been crazy here and my gauge shows roughly 5" the last couple weeks.
We went to a place in Morgan Hill a couple years ago that had some beautiful walnut slabs to die for. Crazy expensive though. Baker Hardwoods in Gilroy. BIG selection.
I also know a guy up in Longview, Washington that has a home operation. I think he sells most of his inventory to Urban Hardwoods (and their artists) in San Francisco. If you want to talk to him, I can forward his contact information.
We had a couple of power outages overnight. First one was midnight-2AM, and was total. Second outage came at 4:30 this morning, and was a brownout (volts ranging from 50-75 volts). We were getting quite a light show as various lights couldn't figure out if they wanted to be off or on. I unplugged the 'fridge, and turned off some critical things, called PG&E, and went back to bed.
Power was completely off when we got up this morning, so I started up the genny, and flipped the big transfer switch. PG&E says they are "assessing" the damage this morning.

Anyone know where to get live edge slabs?
I see a good number of nice rifle stocks to be, there!
Joe can't remember where I seen Walnut slabs around here but in Arizona I seen loads of slabs , take a look in Prescott or Flagstaff CL , did you get the 6.0 or is that Gas V-10?
Man talk about some wind Wholly cow it was bad , around 3 this morning . Cheese heads are losing
Good thickness. They need to be about that to help prevent warping when drying. Takes longer to dry though. 16" is pretty narrow without book matching though. Pretty good price.
