2011+ Engine Failure Thread
Rules:
1. Post up any threads, photos, or details of first-hand experience of any engine failure of a 2011-present F150. Examples can come from any forum or source that you like, but must be credible.
2. Engines, to the best of your knowledge, should be stock or somewhat close to it(i.e. air intake, exhaust, and so forth). Highly modified engines need not apply.
3. Engine failures ONLY. Meaning a replacement long block, short block, or complete engine. Intercooler issues, coolant leaks, timing chains, and everything else need not apply.
3. I will edit this post to maintain a tally of failures, and hopefully we can all can have fun and become a bit better informed. This is in no way intended to resemble any kind of scientific survey, but it would give everyone a bit better perspective on things.

The first time my Eco blew up...... - Ford F150 Forum - Community of Ford Truck Fans
This thing blew up on him three times before he traded. He insists that it was bone stock, and the root cause was clearly never diagnosed.

2012 Ecoboost Catastrophic Failure
At this point I haven't found enough failures to become concerned, and the same would be true if I had a 5.0L truck. I'm hoping some other folks can find what I can't and make this interesting. Where are @WXboy and @93Cobra? I'm sure they'd be happy to find all the EcoBoost failures that I'm missing.

I think that's a silly thing to do...a fresh engine at 79K miles is awesome when you're not the one paying for it! I'd have kept that thing for awhile...

This is an old article but still on point to Tom's discussion. As of late 2014 when the 2015' were about to arrive, Ford was projecting a sales breakdown of 28% 5L, 28% of the 2.7L and 28% of the 3.5L ecoboost leaving about 15% for the 3.5L N/A.
As of June 2016 Ford had sold it's 1,000,000th ecoboost F-150. There are plenty of 3.5L EB's out there in other Taurus based platforms.
The point here that Tom has posted a pretty equal number of failures but when considering the sheer volume of GTDI engines sold in the F-150, it seems that the 3.5L EB may have a pretty low failure rate after all.
For the life of me I can't source any info that breaks down F-150 sales by engine. I know Ford has it but this info is apparently not available for public viewing.
Love your info Tom, keep digging buddy, this is enlightening.
