I've got a 2002 F350 DRW 7.3 truck I'm having a little concern over. It started this summer, when under very heavy pulling I was getting a very noticeable vibration between 20 and 25 mph. I did not think much of it, as it only happened under extreme conditions.
Now I'm getting the vibration all the time, and it's started another band which is 40 to 45 mph. It's much worse if you are very light on the throttle, if you're full throttle it's much harder to notice.
Truck has 154,000 miles. I've got my idea of what it is but I was wondering if could get a few more opinions.
You feel it in the whole truck. The truck has a chip, and air intake modification. It doesn't seem to change pitch or speed just mostly disappears when you get out of the "band"
I will say it's still much more intense when the truck us under heavy load.
Also, binding u-joints and a slip yolk that's froze up can cause vibration issues. Since it happens under heavy acceleration, I'm leaning towards spring wrap or driveshaft issues.
I thought about driveshaft but I've known that to have a specific band, usually starts slow and builds in intensity as you go faster. I will however gladly check that out.
Just to be clear I'm not talking about hard accelerations makes it worse, it's heavy load ie 12,000 pounds of 5th wheel up a very steep grade. There again it only happens in those very narrow 5mph bands.
I need to change the oil this weekend, i'll pull the drive line and check it over real good. I was thinking it was probably a given it was transmission but sense no one's brought that up yet maybe it will be something simpler.
