2014 5.0 were the knocking/tapping issues resolved?
Looking at trading my supercab in on a 2014 5.0 with a build date of 1/14. Anyone know if the knocking issues were resolved by that time or if there were any changes made to the engine from the 2011-14 model year? Thanks in advance.

Supposedly the knocking issue is less common in the 13/14 model year trucks. But it still happens sometimes, a quick search of these threads and you'll find the knock still shows up in the 13/14 and even some in the 15+ models. However, I think it's more predominant in the 11/12's. The important thing to try and figure out is what's causing the knock, some have said that the water pump tends to go out early on these trucks which causes a knocking sound, that's a few hundred dollar fix. However the big issue to watch out for (which is also unfortunately hard to diagnose) is the oblong cylinder issue, which essentially requires a short block replacement or in other words around eight to ten grand.
Anyone please correct me if I am wrong, but the oblong cylinder issue is limited to the 11/12 models if I remember correctly right?
Hopefully the oblong cylinder issue is isolated to the 11/12's. The truck I traded in was a 2011 with 69,500 or so miles. It knocked intermittently and the water pump TSB was performed. It did run smoother after but it was still there. As a matter of fact the day before I traded it in it was knocking worse than it had in a long time, part of the reason I was over it.
I purchased a 2014 STX crew cab 4x4 with 50k miles, and I can easily say this truck runs smoother than the 2011 ever did and is more powerful(bought the 11 truck with 30k on the clock). Took a shot with another 5.0, hopefully this one is a good one as it seems to be. Really liking the 6sp transmission as well. With the same gears and larger tires this one runs very well in comparison to the old one.
You will be fine with the 5L - have no concern about any issues.
Always some cause for concern my friend. So far this one runs like a completely different truck which I am very pleased with. It's also a certified pre owned so I at least have some peace of mind through 2/2021. Solely judging on the way it runs currently I'm thinking I got a good one this time.
