I have a 1996 f150 with dual tanks when I'm on the front tank it takes gas out of the back tank But the gas gauge is showing what is in the front tank Any idea what may be the problem
Its a very common problem,, probably not the dash selector switch but that's the easiest spot to check..... read this thread i wrote a test procedure,, my bet is that its your vacuum diaphragm tank selector valve inside the frame rail rear of your high pressure pump this is what your looking for
There is no dual function reservoir on a 1996 F-Series truck. Ford stopped using that problematic fuel system on these trucks in 1989. BTW....those fuel reservoirs are not vacuum operated.
bentwire,
He does not have the selector valve on the frame with a 1996 truck.
The valve you posted an image of was last used in a 1989 truck and it is not vacuum operated.
I just read of another person having this problem, which I have on my 97 too. His claim was that the valves that control this flow depend on proper fuel pump pressure to work. If the pumps are old and weak, like mine, the valves don't close all the way. Don't know if it's correct or not, but sort of makes some sense in my case.
