I have a persistent issue with the OD off light flashing on my 2001 7.3L auto 4x4. Scanning it with AE I get the P1832 code.
The truck runs and drives just fine. It shifts nice, goes into overdrive, locks up, etc. If it weren't for that blinking light I'd think it was all perfect.
I've checked all the connections, replaced the range switch / neutral safety switch, replaced the VSS on the rear axle, checked all light bulbs and fuses. I've checked MOST of the relays in the truck.
I pulled the tranny drain plug and poured out a bit of fluid into a clean pan, it looks and smells good.
AE also tells me that it's not communicating with the ABS system (although there's no persistent ABS warning light on the dash), the Airbag, the Overhead Trip Computer, the Parking Aid (which I don't have...), or the Enhanced Powertrain. The temperature on my overhead display is reading -40F which is clearly wrong...
I've looked for a comprehensive wiring diagram for the truck, but can't find one. I'm trying to figure out if there's a connector or module that these various functions go thru that might be the problem.
Am I missing a ground somewhere?
The frame was just powdercoated......am I not getting a good ground connection?
Anyone have any ideas?
In complete disclosure, I have torn this truck apart and re-assembled it out of several different trucks as outlined in this thread. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l#post16813460
My code list shows: P1832 Transmission Transfer Case Differential Lock-Up Solenoid Circuit Failure. Have you looked at the connections on the transfer case?
What caused you to replace the TRS (what you called the range switch / neutral safety switch) and VSS?
I've messed with both of the transfer case connectors, both seem just fine. I've put the truck in 4wd, 4lo, and 2wd and everything works as expected.
A Ford-tech buddy of mine said that the TRS can be delicate and fussy, and it seemed easy enough to change out so I did. I also had another VSS sitting in another axle, so I swapped it out because it was easy and available.
I see from your signature file that you may have had a hand in the design of my transmission, seems like you might know a thing or two! =D
I noticed that my vehicle description in my signature is a bit off these days. The truck is now a long box, the drivetrain has 195k miles, and I don't have the DP Tuner installed. Oh, my 5" exhaust finally rusted out and I replaced it with the 4" version.
That code says there is an electrical fault in the transfer case diff lockup solenoid circuit. You need to check it. Looking at the connectors doesn't count. The problem could be a bad solenoid or a damaged wire between the PCM and the solenoid.
Does my transfer case actually have a differential to lock? I've always been under the impression that my truck has true traditional (electronically shifted) 4 wheel drive.
I don't know transfer cases. I'm going by the code description. The description of differential may be wrong, but I'm confident your problem is an electrical problem with the transfer case. And if it is electronically shifted, you definitely have electrical connections.
