For my engine a 1995 4.9l there are 4 possible PCM's available not including the California one which I do not live in Cali so forget that one. Is there someone who knows the differences between them by their code numbers? I will list them for reference, my truck has the 4.9l and the E4OD tranny EECIV diagnostics. I swapped this engine in so I do not have an original PCM for reference which is why I am trying to decode the differences in these PCM's if possible.
Lead Head you got it, I put a 95 4.9l in a 97 F350 and am trying to find the correct PCM to get it running. Also if possible I would like to know what the differences are in the various PCM's that fit this engine and transmission combo that I listed.
I do not know what an air bag has to do with it but F350's of this era do not have air bags. In my state trucks over 8000gvw before OBDII do not get emissions tested just a general inspection. So I can put any engine I want into this truck it just has to run and be safe to operate. I see in other posts that there are people who can look up PCM numbers and use the emission code to check compatibility that is what I am after if I need to give more info let me know.
The problem is the heavy duty trucks use a different air injection system. I believe Subford mentioned before some of the F250HD/F350 may use a single AIRB solenoid versus both an AIRB and AIRD on the F150/Bronco. So depending on the donor engine and what is already in the truck the OP needs to source a compatible computer to keep the Check Engine Light off. There are ways around that by keeping the solenoid(s) electrically connected, but not attaching the vacuum lines.
That wont matter. To swap in the 4.9, he would have had to swap in the entire 4.9 harness since it's completely different. Whatever hardware the 351 had is irrelevant at this point.
I got the whole engine harness and I have it all connected up ready to run. In my state this truck does not need to pass emissions so I removed the air injection but kept the EGR and no cats .
