Battery idiot light

Battery light came on today. Checked voltage with truck running and only getting 11.8 / 11.9 volts at each battery. Alternator shot or ?????

That's what it was with mine. Many gave advice not to run it until you get a new Alternator so you don't fry your FICM also.

any advice on size/brand to buy? or NOT to buy for that matter?

Nothing special in truck at moment all stock.

Once you have replaced the alternator I would also ave both batteries load tested separately.

batteries both replaced this past July.

I would still have them tested. They give warranties because things fail.

At the very least, get an 05 140 amp unit. 03-04 has a 110 amp stock.

Does the '05 drop right into an '04? website says it doesn't fit?(not that i really trust the parts store about what fits and what doesn't)

Tell'em you want the upper/top alternator for an 05 dual alternator F-350. This will get you the highest amp. Alt. YES it will fit.

Here's what I bought at advance. It isn't a "super" alternator, but seems to be doing ok. My truck is an '05.

Thanks to all for your input. What should have been an easy five minute job, turned into a 2 hour job, due to my own stupidity on removing the belt. Royal pita to get it back on if you don't lock the tensioner in place (which I didn't know you could do). But alas no more idiot light, both batteries load tested and good to go. Now as long as nothing else decides to fail, I can finally get my tires replaced.
