T'was the day after Christmas and I shuffled to the garage. I opened the door and thought this must be a Mirage !? There were parked two Buicks, pristine in glory..what was their story ? Later that day, I would receive a call, with Dad saying that he could no longer drive them at all. He would go on to say that he knew in my trust, I would keep them as a pair, which was a must.
They were the last vehicles that he would drive, during the time in which he did thrive. Although they are newer being 01 and 03....I will cherish them with glee. One being silver and one maroon, I will be very proud to drive both....
very soon.
At least dad knew when to stop before he or someone else got hurt.
I remember when I was a lot younger had an aunt that we would have to disable the car, take coil wire off but not remove, she would call AAA and they would put it back on and off she went. Only way to stop her was take the keys away.
Mom got the car.
FIL backed into a fence and with a little talking he gave up the car. Gave the car away.
We will all come to that road some day, just hope we have the brains to know it is time.

Very true Dave. Dad has become blind in his right eye and at age 81, gave up the keys. I will keep both the DeSoto and the 66 VW in his garage though. He's still spry and will go out and fire them up a couple times a week to blow the moisture out of the exhaust. Can't keep a motorhead down.
I lost my mom & dad years ago. Dad on the way home from a blood cleaning passed on so he did not have to give up driving.
Mom a stroke put her a home for years before she moved on after a year with out dad so again no giving up driving.
When my time comes I can only hope I have enough head to know to give up the keys. Thing is wife has no family & my son is not close to us.
Oh old age!

Well done! Looks like something my brother would do - he's the artistic one of us two.
And, speaking of my brother, he told me yet again today how happy he is that I got Dad's truck since Dad loved it so much.
Dave, I understand, my Father's Mother died in my arms. Literally. I try to live her legacy every day as well as my Father's and my Grandfather's. I have a serious legacy to live up to..even at 50 plus years.
