You've stumbled into the diesel forum, where we burn oil, sometimes veg oil, and just about anything else the stations see fit to stick into our fuel- except lubricating sulfur!
Please use descriptive titles for your posts. is the first sentence of our guidelines.
I dunno how I missed this thread the first time around, two years ago, but for clarification purposes the quoted part above is not an FTE Guideline. It is however the first sentence by Cookie, the moderator, in his post giving general information about the forum, along with a link to the guidelines, along with tech links.
I skim like most others. Sometimes I get curious about what noise they're talking about or what they need help with.
I also check who started the thread too. If it's someone I recognize I'll dive in to see if I can be useful even if I don't know what it's about from the title.
I don't know a lot but I've done a lot and can speak to experience more than knowledge.
Yes, it is a nuisance to read through thread titles and have no idea what the author is talking about without delving into the thread. This is especially bad when using the built in FTE search, even the advanced search.
A lot of us have gone to Google and searched the following "keywords here site:ford-trucks.com". For example, if I wanted to look up SXE on the FTE forum (enough acronyms for you?) I would search "SXE site:ford-trucks.com".
I understand and agree that all of this would be unnecessary if the FTE search function worked better and if people would title their threads more appropriately, but that is the way of the world and we are not going to change it on a Ford forum, that is for sure. Coincidentally, as I was looking down the thread list I saw this one, then I saw the one below it and I got a good laugh at the placement of them just by chance...
In addition to the mis-titled or "creatively titled" but non-descriptive titles, there are plenty out there that are done well. This image was taken as well, which is a good representation of what to do.
I feel if we can conquer this, we should start going after people that don't use turn signals, people that walk the wrong way up an isle in the airport that is marked for walking the opposite direction, people that go in the out door, etc...
++++++++++Thread titles are starting to look like+++++++++++++

Agree again, but don't wonder, I know it is not necessary, but neither are a lot of things in life. Like huge/loud mufflers on a Mazda Miata, or smoke stacks on a 12 valve Cummins truck.
