I recently bought a 2010 F250 V-10. Previous owner had a fancy stereo put in with an amp behind the back seat. There are multiple large wires coming off the battery for this. I dont know alot about aftermarket stereos...
I notice that if I let the truck sit for about 5+ days the battery is totally dead. I have started it after 3-4 days just fine. I suspect the stereo might have something to do with this?
start disconnecting wires one at a time. sooner or later you will find the one that has the draw.
i usually disconnect the wire and put a test light in the line. clamp to the wire, and the probe on the battery terminal. if the light lights up i know there is a draw on that circuit.
Thanks for the idea. I pulled the obvious AMP cable from the battery and it did not appear to have current running through it when I put a 12v tester on it, There was one other cable mounted on the same stud. I did the same with it and it also had no draw. There is another cable that splits into two that comes off the front. It did have current running through it but I realize that there will be some current there due to the stereo memory and things like that.
With all the settings and seat memory and stereo memory do these things just drain the battery that quickly? I may end up just putting a little solar charger in the window everytime I park it for more than a couple days.
with good batteries and clean connections, it should be closer to 13-14 days to drain enough not to start.
i use a small solar charger in every vehicle i own.
plus the diesels have battery maintainers that get plugged in over night at least once a month.
I put a small 1.5w solar and it still died after about 5 days. I disconnected the negative and put an amp meter in line but something started clicking near the firewall like it was trying to connect but didnt have enough power and it showed about 6 amps? I wondered if the truck draws alot of power when the battery is first connected to run some systems or if this might point to my problem?
