I run tape weights on the inside of the rims on all mine. 33" BFG's, 35" MT ATZ Baja's, 35" BFG's etc...never had an issue BUT none of them ever see the winter months! They see plenty of mud during the summer and all have held up great!

No they don't. Airsoft Red Jackets are hard plastic, just weigh them out with a postal scale or whatever. Use weight you'ld use for other stuff. Four ounces is 4 ounces. They've always come out looking just like they did going in, rinse in a colander or sieve and dry and store to reuse if you like.
I use a small hand held shop vacuum with long straight wand to insert in between bead and rim from above and evacuate them at change time.
I have heard of some BBs pounding themselves to a red dust as they are more dense, made of lead with a copper coating. Perhaps you are thinking of those?
