I went to replace the outer tie rods on my Escape yesterday and was halted by the outer tie rods' refusal to let go of the threads on the tie rod. I had a heat gun (industrial strength but not enough to make the rod end glow) and a large pipe wrench. I applied torque almost sufficient to break the tie rod.
I have a front end kit (tie rods inner, outer, boots, swaybar links, ball joints, ect.) but not the tool for the inner tie rods....yet
I see the inner torque is 81 ft lbs. but I wonder about having it loosten up. Should some threadlocker be used? It seems to me there should be some sort of measures to secure that end....
